Day 4 : Amber Mountain Park / Ankarana

Day trip to Montagne d’Ambre National Park. It is a Quaternary volcanic complex covering an area of 300,000ha. Its rich flora and fauna make it one of the most visited parks in the North. Accompanied by a local guide, you’ll discover this site of major botanical interest along the Thousand Trees Trail, from lichens to orchids, from different species of palm to “strangler” ficus and even the ramy, an endemic tree whose sap gives off a strong smell of turpentine. The animals are not to be outdone, with 11 species of lemur living in the park, including the crowned lemur, the Sanford’s lemur and the tuberculated Brookesia, one of the world’s smallest chameleons (barely 3 cm in size, tail included), so small that it takes our guide’s trained eye to spot it. The uroplate, a flat gecko nicknamed the king of camouflage because of its ability to blend in with the bark of the tree on which it hangs, will also be present. Picnic lunch at Station forestière des Roussettes. Afternoon transfer to Ankarana.
