Travel guide
South Africa

Another Africa.

Here you’ll experience a mix of landscapes and atmospheres, very representative of South Africa.

Cape Town and its history, its modern yet traditional architecture, and the spirit of mutual aid in the heart of the townships… We get lost on the coast, where we observe the horizon and, above all, the Cape of Good Hope. Further on, whales near Hermanus.

One of Africa’s most beautiful game reserves lies to the north-east of Johannesburg: Kruger Park. Not far away, Mozambique. Here you’ll find another popular reserve, Kalahari Park.

Formalités

Stays of less than 90 days :

For tourist stays in South Africa up to 90 days, a French passport is exempt from visa requirements. A 90-day residence permit will be issued at the border and on entry to South Africa.

Passports must have two blank pages and be valid for at least 30 days beyond the date of departure from South Africa. Travelers are turned away on arrival.

For stays of more than 90 days, it is possible, under certain conditions, to extend your stay for a further 3 months, at least 60 days before expiry, by requesting a visa extension from the South African immigration authorities.

Less than 90 days before or after a tourist stay (stopover, volunteer work, etc.), it is strongly recommended to apply for it before departure, at the South African Embassy in Paris.

To make sure you don’t run into any difficulties, whether you’re planning a short or long stay, we strongly recommend that you check the validity date of the stamp issued by the South African immigration services on entering the country. This corresponds to 90 days for a tourist stay without a visa (or time to stay at the sticker issued by the South African embassy in Paris).

Any traveler who has left the country after the expiry date of their visa is banned from entering South Africa for a period of 1 to 5 years. If a traveler is subject to an inadmissibility order, he or she can use this procedure: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/immigration-services/overstay-appeals.

Passport and visa control :

The introduction of the new biometric data management system in July 2016 has been scheduled for passport and visa control at Johannesburg’s OR Tambo International Airport. This situation can have consequences for connecting passengers. It is therefore advisable to allow time for correspondence.

Minors entering and leaving South Africa :

Nota bene: these data gathered by the French authorities are given for information only and are subject to change. They cannot anticipate the sovereign application made by South African authorities and airlines.
