To cope with the sometimes very high cost of hospitalization and health care abroad, it’s essential to have an assistance contract or insurance to cover all medical expenses (surgery, hospitalization, etc.) and repatriation, or risk not having access to care, even in the event of a life-threatening emergency. Under no circumstances will these costs be covered by the local French embassy or consulate general.

Formalités

A passport valid for more than 6 months from the date of arrival in Tanzania is required by the Tanzanian authorities.

Visa applications must be submitted to the Tanzanian embassy in France. However, if travellers are unable to apply for a visa before departure, they can obtain one at the international airports of Dar-Es-Salaam, Zanzibar and Kilimanjaro, and at the ports of Dar-Es-Salaam, Zanzibar and Kigoma.

At border crossings, immigration officers may reduce the validity of a visa issued by a Tanzanian embassy. It is therefore advisable to check the endorsement affixed by the immigration authorities to the visa itself, and to adhere strictly to the length of stay granted.
