Some words and expressions in the language

The language spoken in the Maldives by locals is Divéhi, an Indo-Iranian language related to Sinhalese. But you can very easily speak English, a language spoken by a good number of native people.

Formalités

No prior visa is required for French nationals for a stay of less than 30 days.

The visa is issued free of charge upon arrival in the Maldives upon presentation of the passport, the validity of which must be at least 6 months after the end of the planned stay, a valid ticket departing from the Maldives and confirmation hotel reservation (or, failing that, proof of sufficient resources for the duration of the stay: 100 USD + 50 USD per day). Foreign tourists must pay a 25 USD departure tax (usually included in the price of the plane ticket).

The visa issued on arrival is for a maximum of 30 days.
