Some words and expressions in the language

As French Guiana is an overseas region of France, Guyanese people speak French. But you can still learn a few Creole essentials!

  • Welcome! = Ou a ou kaz !
  • See you later = Pi ta ! ou Talo ! (literally “later” or “just now”)
  • It’s easy! = A tchika ! ou A poko dilo pou mouyé mo !
  • See you next time! = A ounot solèy
  • Goodbye = Oréwar !
  • How much is it? = Konmyen sa ka kouté ?
  • How are you? = A kouman to fika ?
  • I don’t speak Creole yet. = Mo poko ka palé kréyol fo.
  • Thank you = Mési / Grémési
