Formalités

As Easter Island is a Chilean island, formalities remain the same:

Visas are not required for stays of less than three months. A passport valid for the entire stay in Chile is required. Proof of leaving the country (plane ticket, bus ticket, etc.) and proof of income may be required.

On arrival in Chile, the local authorities (PDI) issue a “Tarjeta Unica Migratoria”. Keep it with you throughout your stay. It will be required on leaving the country.

For travelers arriving by land, be sure to pass through a border post, where the local authorities will stamp your passport and issue you with the “Tarjeta Unica Migratoria”.

If you return to Chile without completing these formalities, you will be in an illegal situation. You could be forced to stay in the country for several months, awaiting regularization, and risk a fine or deportation.
