THE STARO RIGA LIGHT FESTIVAL

Organized as a way to distract the Latvians early in gloomy long winter nights, the festival Staro Lights takes place in November, with the bridges of the city, parks and monuments illuminated by strange designs. In previous years saw luminous jellyfish floating above the streets and even a light show simulating the demolition of the Latvian National Opera. The city is no less impressive in broad daylight in a jumble of Art Nouveau buildings, medieval bell towers and buildings of the Soviet era huddled near the Baltic Sea.
