Arrival in Marrakech, assistance and transfer to your hotel
Check-in at the Riad. Located in the heart of Marrakech’s Medina, the Riad is a balanced blend of Morocco and Italy. A large Riad with 10 air-conditioned suites, each with its own individual style. The property features a hammam and jacuzzi, as well as a large swimming pool. There’s a massage room, an indoor lounge area and an indoor dining room.
You’ll start by admiring the famous Koutoubia tower, Marrakech’s largest mosque, with its 70-metre-high minaret. The tower is a fine example of Hispano-Moorish art. Continue on to the Bahia Palace, surrounded by magnificent gardens brimming with fruit trees and fragrant flowers. After the Bahia Palace, you’ll head for the Saadian tombs, with their cedar domes and marble columns.
Then on to the Medersa ben Youssef, a former Koranic school named after Sultan Ali ibn Yusuf, an influential figure in the city’s development. The building, which once housed one of the largest Koranic schools in North Africa, accommodating up to 900 students, has been renovated and reopened to the public as a historic site.
On the way, stroll through the labyrinth of narrow streets in the medina and visit the famous souks with their eclectic range of products, from leather to clothes and spices. Morocco’s most famous souks, where you can mingle with the daily hustle and bustle.
Departure for Ouarzazate through the High Atlas, via the Tizit-n-Tichka pass (2,26O meters), literally the pass of the pastures. This mountain range offers beautiful, varied scenery and views of numerous small, tiered villages. We then take the road through the Berber villages of the Atlas to Ait Benhaddou, arriving at ksar Aït Benhaddou and visiting the most beautiful fortified village in the region. Then on to the Dades valley to reach the Skoura palm grove, some 40 km from Ouarzazate. Visit the beautiful Skoura palm grove, with its douar and kasbahs such as Amerdihil, then transfer to the hotel in the heart of the palm grove.
Departure for Merzouga, via Tingher and the Erfoud road famous for its fossilized marble; via Tinjdad. On the way, discover the fougaras, an ingenious irrigation system. After Erfoud, the administrative center of Tafilaft, whose capital Sijilmassa, founded in the 7th century near Rissani, was a major caravan port from the 11th to the 15th century.
Then on to Merzouga, through a succession of Ksour (fortified villages), oases and palm groves. Arrive in Rissani, where if it’s hot, you’ll stop off at a kasbah with swimming pool (where you’ll sleep the next day). 4×4 drive to the bivouac, from where we leave by camel or on foot for a 1 to 2-hour walk to watch the sunset.
By the same route, return by 4X4 to Erfoud, then the minibus will head for the splendid and impressive Todra gorges, which have served as a natural backdrop for many films. Cross Tineghir with its beautiful palm grove which you can visit. We then head for the Dades valley to reach the Dades gorges via a beautiful road dotted with small orchards and rocks dubbed “monkey phalanges” that run from the Roses valley region to Bou-Tharar.
Continuation to Ouarzazate via Kelaa M’GOUNA, a charming little town known as the Rose capital thanks to the Rose Festival held every May. The festival is also an opportunity for visitors to El-Kelaa to discover its small fair and the region’s handicrafts and agricultural products. Late transfer to Ouarzazate.
Start the morning with an orientation tour of the town of Ouarzazate and its ancient Kasbahs. Ouarzazate is a magical town at the gateway to the Sahara, an ideal starting point for discovering southern Morocco, famous for its Kasbahs and Ksours, as well as its film studios.
After breakfast at the hotel, we meet our expert mountain guide who will lead us on a half-day walk to discover the village of Imlil and its surroundings. Terraced cultivation, dry-stone houses, scenes of agricultural life, an opportunity to discover another way of life while filling your lungs with pure air.
Afternoon transfer to Essaouira.
