When he chooses the ryokan stay, the traveler usually seeks a compromise between the city and the fields, or the ability to live in the open air, a breathable and clear environment, without losing sight of the lights of urban Japan. From there, the Kiya Ryokan, located in the quiet town of Uwajima, south of the island of Shikoku, the most rural and least populated of the islands of the archipelago, has instead sided with the fields. This should not worry about the aesthetic values of the place. Quite the contrary. Founded in 1911, the last years of the Meiji era, the Kiya Ryokan has just reopened after being closed for more than fifteen years. Crossing of great literary and political figures, history is now combined with clean lines, elegant, contemporary, offering a second life to this traditional architecture. Tatami and Shoji, the translucent sliding doors and coexist with flat screens and iPod docks, on two floors and three rooms for a total of up to eight people. This is also the main difference between Kiya and classic ryokan: the principle of all or nothing. For complete freedom, the group booking is almost mandatory, and hefty whole house. To get a fair idea of the principles of Japanese hospitality, the solution is not ideal. But to live a residential experience total immersion, there will hardly better.
How to get there: The Kiya Ryokan is a 5 minute taxi ride or 15 minute walk from the JR Uwajima Station, itself journey from standstill 1:20 JR Matsuyama (express JR Yosan). Thank you to contact our Customer Service for more information.
