After the War of Morea, at the end of the 17th century, the brothers Ivan Petar, Juraj Ivan Marchi submitted to the Republic of Venice and their colonization plan for the defense of western bays of Solta. They sent a petition to the Governor Alvis III Mocenigo to build a tower in the bay on Solta Maslinica and around her village with a church. The Venetian authorities have approved the colonization of deserted bays, because the new settlers farmed the land and poor in case of pirate attacks, they could defend the port and the interior of the island. For decades, the castle was abandoned. In the 1960s, it was converted into a hotel, but it has completely lost its interior arrangement and appearance of the first rooms. It was not until 2002 that the complete renovation of the castle began under strict supervision and storage instructions. At the end of 2004, the castle was restored to its former glory deserved. Today, after three centuries of tumultuous history, the Château de Martinis Marchi welcomes you in rooms that echo with the soft murmur of a bygone era. The castle staff wishes you a pleasant stay in Maslinica on the west coast of the island of Solta, Croatia.
