Tianya Haijiao (the tip of the sky and the sea) is located next to the hill Xiamaling, about 50 km west of Yalong Bay. In ancient times, Hainan Island was a place of exile for scholars and poets who came here, inspired by the beautiful surroundings they composed their most influential work. The rocks are from the azure waters and palm trees dancing in the wind around the beach. Two Chinese characters "Tianya" (the edge of the sky), are engraved on one of the largest rocks from the beach. Next to it is another rock carved with the characters "Haijiao" (The sea). On the left of the two rocks is another conical rock. The words "Column South of Heaven", which indicates that it is the southernmost point of China. Legend has it that Chenzhe, the prefecture of the Qing Dynasty, wrote "The Edge of Sky", and a scholar of the dynasty of unknown even wrote: "The sea" and "Column of the southern sky."
