The coastal city of Byblos is located on a sandstone cliff, about 40 km north of Beirut. It reflects the spread of Phoenician culture through the Phoenician alphabet. There are the ruins of one of the oldest cities of Lebanon, inhabited since Neolithic times and closely tied to the history of the Mediterranean. Continuously inhabited since Neolithic times, its evolution is characterized by structures from different periods encompassing the medieval town-house. Byblos is evidence of an uninterrupted history of building monumental temples such as the Bronze Age, the Persian fortifications, the way Roman, Byzantine churches, the castle window, the medieval and Ottoman.
