A historical hot-spring Ryokan, long-loved by many Shogun, artists and men of letters. A poetic integrity of East-West, old-new, and elegance-convenience. Located in the sanctuary spa resort village “Arima hot-springs”, which is a thermal and spiritual spot that dates from the far mythical age when the holly golden hot-spring “Kin Sen” was discovered by the two Shinto Gods “Ohnamuchi-no-mikoto” (god of Medicine), and “Sukuna-hikona-no-mikoto” (god of land,), as it is recorded in the historic Japan Chronicles book “Nihon Shoki”. The inn Tousen Goshoboh was founded in 1191, and during 16 generations it has been long-loved by men of letters, poets, and shoguns. The name “Goshoboh”, which means “Imperial palace or Imperial Lodge”, was attributed after the visit of the Samurai Lord “Ashikaga Yoshimitsu” , who ruled Japan from 1368 to 1394 during the Muromachi period. During the moderne era, Goshoboh continued to be loved by many men of letters, including the very known writer of “In the praise of Shadows”, Tanizaki Junichiro (1886-1965) , the historical novelist and poet Yoshikawa Eiji (1892 – 1962), and many others who were Goshoboh patrons, and left some work expressing their experience at Goshoboh. Today, the three-story, yellow-earth colored building which inherits the beauty of the nostalgic wooden architecture, but incorporates a contemporary flair, still stands silently in a leafy gland by the side of the limpid streams of the Taki river. The building features 20 Japanese-style rooms and suites, all with private facilities and balconies that open to city, mountain or courtyard views. Each room is a dedication to a particular Japanese man of letters or Artist that has been an admirer of the inn. An invitation to merge into a mystic profundity, to reach and enjoy the transcendent world.
