Villa I Bossi was built in 1240 under the direction of Bico Albergotti, a direct ancestor of the current owner, Francesco, who lives always in the villa with his family. Albergotti family, of Germanic origin, came to Arezzo in the year 870 with Otto I and played a key role in making an important city of Arezzo in the region of Etruria. The family consolidated its fortunes until it reaches its peak around the year 1200, after fighting in the Crusades and participated in all the most important events related to the history of the city. Original documents preserved in the family archives show that there was a medieval fort at Gragnon was slowly altered and enlarged by the ancestors through the various years 1700 to become the city where we are today. The villa retains much evidence of its glorious past: the portraits of popes, who were guests of the family, the masterpieces of various artists from Benedetto da Maiano to Della Robbia, the gallery of ancestors, the chapel built by Archbishop Agostino Albergotti to honor the Madonna del Conforto and countless other reminders and memories of many residents and guests of the villa over the centuries. These recalls are not the heritage of the chosen few, but they have become the heritage of many in their representation of our collective historical past. Today the villa is open to anyone who wishes to immerse themselves in the unique atmosphere that has remained intact through wars, festivals, deaths and births, marriages and conflicts, passions and the love. Villa I Bossi is still there, rising to the blue Tuscan sky, never jealous of its secrets from the past.
