The construction of the monastery of the Carthusian (Certosa di San Giacomo) was launched in 1363 to 1365 by Giacomo Arcucci. This is the oldest historic building on the island of Capri, was actually built in 1371 by order of Count Giacomo Arcucci on land donated by Queen Joanna I of Anjou field. Chartreuse is divided into three blocks of buildings, one unrelated to the life of the monastery with the pharmacy and the church for women; one for the lay brothers and external customers with attached barns, stables and workshops where they worked the monks; the last block to the cloistered life with cells in the Great Cloister and other parts of the small cloister. The Great Cloister following a late Renaissance style with arches on pillars of stone, while the area in the center is organized by a geometric pattern with green spaces. The small cloister arches delicate marble Roman columns. Chartreuse is now the seat of the High School of Capri, the Museum Diefenbach and summer is a venue for concerts and events.
