The Rossini Opera Festival is an international opera festival dedicated to Gioachino Rossini. Its aim is to revive, by performing on stage and to study the musical heritage of the composer, who, leaving his entire fortune to the city of Pesaro, gave birth at the Music Conservatory and the Foundation that bears his name today. The Rossini Opera Festival was created in 1980 by the city council of Pesaro with the intention to preserve and develop, through theatrical performances, the scientific work of the Foundation Rossini: what gave birth to a single workshop musicology and multi-disciplinary, to the revival of all plays and lesser-known publications of Rossini with musicological research. Development and growth of the event was also made possible by financial contributions from public and private organizations.
