On January 11th is the date of the fire Clavie, a fire festival unique to Burghead, which hosts the New Year. The importance of the 11th January was in 1750, when the Julian calendar was reformed in Britain. The new Gregorian calendar was introduced. The people revolted, demanding the return of 11 days, except at Burghead. The people have decided to have both, celebrating the New Year twice - the first in January and 11 January. Therefore, every January 11 a barrel full of sticks is carried around the town followed by a large crowd. The final destination is on the hill Doors on the ramparts of the old fortress, where it is firmly stuck and then it is allowed to burn and fall down the hill. Owning a piece of the clave is synonymous with good luck for the coming year and the pieces are sent throughout the world.
