The festival Saga Dawa is the most important religious festival celebrated in Tibet. This traditional feast during which the faithful fast and offer prayers, take place from 1 to 15 of the fourth Tibetan month, marking the last day of both birth and enlightenment of Sakyamuni Parinirvana, also known as the Buddha. Saga Dawa, or "Sa-dhe Due-chen" is the Tibetan name of the festival also known as the Wesak or Vesak in the Buddhist tradition of other countries. This festival is based on the moon, the date can vary from one country to another. In 2011, it was celebrated by Tibetans from 1 to June 15.
