Whether you arrive by land or by sea, the only way to really discover the historic town of Falmouth is to discover on foot. Falmouth is a historic port city, located between Ocho Rios and Montego Bay on the north coast of Jamaica, and is perfectly equipped to be explored by walkers. Founded in 1769, this architectural gem has the finest collection of Georgian architecture in the Caribbean, and has been rated as one of the 100 monuments in the world 's most endangered. The story begins when Falmouth "sugar is king" and it quickly became a busy port and a rich thanks to the benefits of city sugar, rum and slavery. Evidence of the prosperity of the city is reflected in its architecture, some of which are still visible today, but history reveals other facts not visible. For example, Falmouth had running water before New York. The important role of the city in the movement to abolish slavery was essential.
