Eight Doges, forty four Attorneys S. Marco and several other officials of the Republic made the reputation of Contarini. They were very rich in the golden period of the Serenissima, and can be seen by considering the number and importance of the palaces they built in the fifteenth century. The Gothic palace, called "Corfù" (because in this island possessions Contarini), was built by Piero Contarini called "Golden Prince", in the late fourteenth century, while the attached palace was begun in 1605 on the draft Vincenzo Scamozzi and was completed in 1630. The extension of a Gothic palace XVII, in lies the need for a greater number of reception rooms: for this level within had to give and, although the facade remained a Gothic, the other neo-classical interior should give the impression of a unique palace. We can notice some disproportions in the adaptation of the palace later to the former, however Scamozzi's work was admired and imitated by other architects.
