This is a unique tour combining archeology, history and rustic landscape. Sillustani is a plateau facing the lagoon Umayo between the airport of Juliaca and Puno. This site was a cemetery for the Pucara, Tiahuanaco, and Colla pre-Inca cultures that lived in the area long before the Inca expansion. The round structure known as Chullpas, symbolizing life and birth, are impressive ancient tombs, which were used as burial places for chiefs and other important people. Later, the Incas inhabited the area and created their own versions of these towers. Therefore there are two types of chullpas: the rough, small towers pre-Inca and the sweetness, the towers Incas. The biggest tower took 50 years to build, and consists of rocks weighing 2 to 6 tonne.
